Garden Club

We organise visits throughout the gardening year to special gardens in and around Bucks, Berks and Oxon. We have discovered many really fascinating gardens with charming owners and interesting histories.

Report on Gardeners' Forum

The Gardeners' Forum held on Friday March 21st was a great success. Three very knowledgeable panellists, all gardeners with a green agenda, talked about their gardens and the philosophy underpinning their gardening.  Key messages for this correspondent were 'the answer really does lie in the soil' and the advice to save the seeds from your best plants because these plants thrived in the conditions in your garden and their progeny would very likely do the same.

Over £300 was raised which was divided between Macmillan Nurses and the Shiplake Hall Fund.

Thanks to Hilary Penrose whose idea it was.

Bowler Hat Brigade

Pathe News item from 1969

A local resident thinks that the 2 men planting the small flower bed are Michael Savory and his father, who lived at Lock End.  Michael went on to become the Lord Mayor of London.  Does anyone recognise any of the others?
